Set during
WWII, the film is a drama of the Italian resistance, with all
the usual clich¨¦d characters in attendance. The central character,
a bombed-out gamine who falls in love with an Italian partisan,
is played by Lucia Bose, who earned a great deal of praise for
her performance. Most of the film deals with the culture-clash
between the citified resistance fighters and their rural hosts.(Here£©
cripted by
Eriprando Visconti, nephew of Lucino Visconti, Gli Sbandati transports
its viewers to a provincial Italian town on the verge of a massive
socio-political transformation. The year is 1943, a few days after
the Italian government has accepted Eisenhower's armistice proposal.
Lucia (Lucia Bose), a poor girl who has fallen in love with the
wealthy looker Andrea (Jean-Pierre Mocky), is torn between helping
a group of Italian soldiers on the run and a promising future
with the man of her dreams. Surrounded by Andrea's friends and
family however who openly support the Fascists Lucia senses that
sooner rather than later she will have to part ways with her lover
- and when Contessa Luisa (Isa Miranda), Andrea's mother, encourages
her son to leave Italy behind and seek happiness in neutral Switzerland
Lucia's world collapses with a bang.
Beautifully
photographed and openly critical of Italian bourgeois culture
Gli Sbandati was Maselli's first feature film. In 1955 the picture
won the coveted "Best New Director" award at the Venice
Film Festival instantaneously placing Maselli amongst Italy's
best. In the following years the young writer-director would passionately
critique Italy's political elite and complete his most acclaimed
work Gli Indifferenti a.k.a A Time of Indifference (1964). (Here£©
Northern Italy,
near Milan, 1943. In order to escape the bombings of the Second
World War, Contessa Luisa, her son Andrea, grandson Carl and Ferruccio,
a family friend, search for shelter in a villa close to Milan.
The three boys try to pass the time in the best way they can.
Only Carlo realizes the tragedy of the situation. The group is
soon joined by Lucia, a woman who also seeks refuge and a group
of soldiers, escaping from the Germans. Andrea hosts them in the
villa during his mothers absence, and soon falls in love with
Lucia. But the brave gesture of Andrea provokes Ferruccio: he
informs the Germans about what is happening in the villa. The
soldiers decide to escape to the mountains using a truck, also
taking Lucia, Carlo and Andrea. The mother returns just before
their departure, and Andrea, influenced by his mother, refuses
to follow his friends. He plans to escape to Switzerland instead.
While he sits in the car to begin his journey, he hears the gunshots
that are fired on the truck, killing Lucia.(Here£©

MORTE DI UN
AMICO ("Death of a Friend") of Franco Rossi, from a
screenplay by Pier Paolo Pasolini and others, reveals the strong
hand Pasolini in its depiction of life at the geographical, social,
economic, and moral edge of Rome. The two heroes (played by Gianni
Garko and Spiros Focas) are pimps, like the protagonist of Pasolini's
own ACCATTONE. The relationship between Aldo and Bruno and the
bourgeois society which rejects them is a complex one. The pimps
are both callous and caring; their prostitutes are by turn vindictive
and generous. MORTE DI UN AMICO is an unsettling, powerful, and
ultimately very moving film from that fertile period of Italian
cinema that brought us L'AVVENTURA, ROCCO AND HIS BROTHERS, ACCATTONE,
and LA DOLCE VITA. (IMDB)
|
An
intentionally shocking drama about the down, often violent side
of existence on the fringe, this story by Franco Rossi follows the
same themes and attitudes found in the work of Pier Paolo Pasolini.
Aldo (Gianni Garko) and Bruno (Spiros Fokas) grew up as close friends
in the same neighborhood in Rome but as they got older they drifted
apart. Aldo has turned to petty crime and his girlfriend, a hooker,
is actually supporting him. Bruno is introduced back into the life
of his friend though he himself is not a part of the shady, destructive
world that surrounds Aldo. Ultimately, Bruno cannot resist the effect
of Aldo and his low-life friends, leading to a few wrong decisions
and eventual tragedy. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi (Here) |
When
Morte di Un Amico was first released in Italy in 1959 the Italian
Committee for the Theatrical Review of the Italian Ministry of Cultural
Heritage and Activities rated the film not suitable for viewing
because it included several immoral scenes which were considered
to be offensive to public decency. On a second review by the Committee,
the film was rated not suitable for children under 16 on the proviso
that the scene in which Alde and Lea hug each other in bed is removed.
The official document number is: 30584. It was signed on 30 November
1959 by Minister Domenico Magr¨¬.(WIKI) |
Morte
di un amico, full movie - The film chronicles the friendship between

audio in Italian. This film has been premiered in theaters in 1959
(Movies 1959). The DVD and Blu-Ray edition of full movie was sold

Z¨¬ Carmela,
the owner of a famous restaurant in Naples, wants her niece to marry
an English peer and doesn't like her love story with Carlo the son
of a baker. When the English lord comes to Naples with his family
she throws a magnificent party during which however class differences
come out. Will this convince her and stop her from being castles
in the air? £¨IMDB) |
L'anziana proprietaria

(here) |
