The focal
point of this standard drama by director Mario Camerini is life
in the Via Margutta, an artists' sector in Rome, the Italian equivalent
of Montmartre in Paris. Stefano (Gerard Blain) is a talented painter,
devoted to his art but not necessarily that adroit or interested
in promoting himself. In contrast to Stefano, there are other artists
more adept at selling their persona as an artist than creating art.
Along with this mixed group of painters is a gay gallery owner who
helps out some of the artists as best he can. Other characters that
wander through the district range from a good-hearted woman to a
self-serving parasite. These people interact in various ways, as
Stefano eventually achieves his just recognition. (here) |
The
lives, loves and disappointments of a group of artist friends living
in the same neighborhood in Rome, Via Margutta, a mecca for young
artists, each struggling to be a success. (IMDB) |
Via Margutta
is a narrow street in the centre of Rome, near Piazza del Popolo,
accessible from Via del Babuino in the ancient Campo Marzio neighborhood
also known as "the foreigner's quarter". Mount Pincio
is nearby. Via Margutta originally was home to modest craftsmen,
workshops and stables, but now hosts many art galleries and fashionable
restaurants.
After the
film Roman Holiday became popular, Via Margutta developed into
an exclusive neighborhood, where various famous people lived,
such as film director Federico Fellini. From the north the area
can be reached from Via Cassia or Flaminia, passing then through
Piazzale Flaminio, and through the city door in the wall that
leads to Piazza del Popolo. From this point one walks several
metres to the left of Flaminio Obelisk towards Via del Babuino,
and on the left there is an alley that leads to Via Margutta.
From Piazza di Spagna, one can take via del Babbuino, turn right
on via Albert, and via Margutta will be on the left.(WIKI)

Piero
Piccioni (Italy 1921-2004)
|
|
Piero
Piccioni
(6 December 1921 ¨C 23 July 2004) was an Italian lawyer turned
major film score composer. A pianist, organist, conductor,
composer, he was also the prolific author of more than 300
film soundtracks. His mother¡¯s maiden name was Marengo,
hence his pseudonym Piero Morgan which he adopted until
1957. He played for the first time on radio in 1938 with
his historic ¡°013¡± Big Band, to return on air only after
the liberation of Italy in 1944. His unforgettable ¡°013¡±,
was the first Italian jazz band to be broadcast in Italy
after the fall of fascism. £¨WIKI) |
There
are few Italian film composers who can boast the prolificacy
of Peiro Piccioni. Since the early '50s Piccioni has been
a truly innovative composer of music for film and has been
justly compared to the likes of Ennio Morricone and Bruno
Nicola. In the 1950s he composed under the Americanized
last name of Piero Morgan, and with his dramatic score to
La Tempesta in 1958, he started to work regularly in Hollywood.
With great versatility, Piccioni incorporates jazz, lounge,
easy listening, and post-romantic period orchestral elements
into his wide variety of work which has been the sonic backdrop
for everything from B horror films to lush, romantic epics.£¨Here£© |

a Silvana. Questa, affidata dalla madre ad un collegio di suore,
tenta di uccidersi tagliandosi le vene e lascia un biglietto indirizzato
a Gino.
(WIKI)

In
spite of its title, this sex comedy by director Luciano Salce is
not another mythic costume drama with Steve Reeves in the lead.
Instead, those little pills mentioned in the title are Herculean
in their impact on the sexual drives of anyone who takes them. According
to this tale, long before Viagra became a household word, the Chinese
had potent pills for the impotent of any age. The comedy follows
the effects of this medicinal substance on the guests at an Italian
hotel in a resort town. Up for special attention is a man, his French
mistress Odette (Jeanne Valerie), and his wife Silvia (Sylvia Koscina).
Nino Manfredi and Vittorio De Sica star as the principal male protagonists.

A
woman disappears during a Mediterranean boating trip. During the
search, her lover and her best friend become attracted to each other.
£¨IMDB) |
A
group of rich Italians head out on a yachting trip to a deserted
volcanic island in the Mediterranean. When they are about to leave
the island, they find Anna, the main character up to this point,
has gone missing. Sandro, Anna's boyfriend, and Claudia, Anna's
friend, try without success to find her. While looking for the missing
friend, Claudia and Sandro develop an attraction for each other.
When they get back to land, they continue the search with no success.
Sandro and Claudia proceed to become lovers, and all but forget
about the missing Anna. £¨IMDB)
|
Anna
(Lea Massari) meets her friend Claudia (Monica Vitti) at her father's
villa on the outskirts of Rome prior to leaving on a yachting cruise
on the Mediterranean. They drive into Rome to Isola Tiberina near
the Pons Fabricius to meet up with Anna's boyfriend, Sandro (Gabriele
Ferzetti). While Claudia waits downstairs, Anna and Sandro make
love in his house. Afterwards Sandro drives the two women to the
coast where they join two wealthy couples and set sail south along
the coast.
The next morning
the yacht reaches the Aeolian Islands north of Sicily. After they
pass Basiluzzo, Anna impulsively jumps into the water for a swim,
and Sandro jumps in after her. When Anna yells that she's seen
a shark, Sandro comes to her side protectively. Later onboard
Anna confesses to Claudia that the "whole shark thing was
a lie," apparently to get Sandro's attention. After noticing
Claudia admiring her blouse, she slips it into Claudia's bag as
a gift. At one of the smaller islands, Lisca Bianca, the party
comes ashore. Anna and Sandro go off alone and talk about their
relationship. Anna is unhappy with his long business trips. Sandro
dismisses her complaints and takes a nap on the rocks...... (Deatil
plot in WIKI)
|
The
plot of "L'Avventura" became famous because, it was said,
nothing happened in the movie. What we saw was a search without
a conclusion, a disappearance without a solution. The title in English
means "The Adventure," and it was not hard to imagine
Antonioni's dry smile as he penned those words on the first page
of his screenplay.
A group of
wealthy friends are cruising the sea near Sicily on a yacht. They
anchor near an island, swim ashore and begin to explore. Anna
(Lea Massari) has quarreled with her lover Sandro (Gabriele Ferzetti),
and has been overheard saying she wanted to be left alone. They
both go ashore, along with her friend Claudia (Monica Vitti) and
others. After a time Anna cannot be found. The others search the
island for her; it is mostly rocks and scrubby trees, and there
seem few places to hide, but she cannot be found.....
