An adaptation
of nine stories from Bocaccio's "Decameron": A young man
from Perugia is swindled twice in Naples, but ends up rich; a man
poses as a deaf-mute in a convent of curious nuns; a woman must
hide her lover when her husband comes home early; a scoundrel fools
a priest on his deathbed; three brothers take revenge on their sister's
lover; a young girl sleeps on the roof to meet her boyfriend at
night; a group of painters wait for inspiration; a crafty priest
attempts to seduce his friend's wife; and two friends make a pact
to find out what happen= s after death. Pasolini is up to his old
tricks satirizing the Church, and throwing in liberal doses of life
and love. (IMDB) |
The film, shot
in Neapolitan dialect at the behest of the director, offers a variety
of episodes from the stories most characteristic of the work of
Giovanni Boccaccio, and are linked through a pupil of the painter
Giotto (played by Pasolini himself) who arrives in Naples to paint
a mural.
In the first
episode, Andreuccio of Perugia is cheated by a Neapolitan and
dropped in a trough of excrement. The young man is found in the
pulp by two thieves who are attempting a coup at a nearby church
to steal the jewels from the tomb of a bishop who died a few days
earlier. Andreuccio is persuaded and, with a brilliant ruse, manages
to steal for himself the most beautiful ring of the deceased....(WIKI)

Ennio
Morricone:
was born 10 November 1928) is an Italian composer, orchestrator,
conductor, and former trumpet player. A classmate of director
Sergio Leone with whom he would form one of the great director/composer
partnerships (right up there with Eisenstein & Prokofiev,
Hitchcock & Herrmann, Fellini & Rota), Ennio Morricone
studied at Rome's Santa Cecilia Conservatory, where he specialized
in trumpet. His first film scores were relatively undistinguished,
but he was hired by Leone for Per un pugno di dollari (1964)
on the strength of some of his song arrangements. His score
for that film, with its sparse arrangements, unorthodox
instrumentation (bells, electric guitars, harmonicas, the
distinctive twang of the jew's harp) and memorable tunes,
revolutionized the way music would be used in Westerns,
and it is hard to think of a post-Morricone Western score
that doesn't in some way reflect his influence. Although
his name will always be synonymous with the spaghetti Western,
Morricone has also contributed to a huge range of other
film genres: comedies, dramas, thrillers, horror films,
romances, art movies, exploitation movies - making him one
of the film world's most versatile artists. He has written
nearly 400 film scores, so a brief summary is impossible,
but his most memorable work includes the Leone films, Gillo
Pontecorvo's La battaglia di Algeri (1966) , Roland Joffé's
The Mission (1986), Brian De Palma's The Untouchables (1987)
and Giuseppe Tornatore's Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (1988), plus
a rare example of sung opening credits for Pier Paolo Pasolini's
Uccellacci e uccellini (1966)......(IMDB,

Pier
Paolo Pasolini
; 5 March 1922 – 2 November 1975) was an Italian film director,
poet, writer and intellectual. Pasolini also distinguished
himself as an actor, journalist, philosopher, novelist,
playwright, filmmaker, painter and political figure.
He
remains a controversial personality in Italy to this day
due to his blunt style and the focus of some of his works
on taboo sexual matters, but he is an established major
figure in European literature and cinematic arts. His
murder prompted an outcry in some circles of Italy, with
its circumstances continuing to be a matter of heated
debate.....(WIKI)

Documentario
